I would like to spend no more than 400 tops, but would like it to run good and let him have something to do his homework on and the other things he likes to do like myspace, last ninja online, and runescape etc. I really don't know much about computers like ram and megabytes and stuff. Thank you so much...

I don't think you're going to be able to find a decent laptop (or even a thinkpad) for $400 and under. Maybe a refurbished one (but be careful with those). If you do find one for $400 and under be sure it's got all the software installed on it before you purchase - otherwise you're going to have to spend additional dollars.

I like tiger direct for the inexpesive computer. Even so it is very difficult to find a laptop for under $400. The link is for $440 not sure how much shipping is. I've never heard of Ninja Online but this will work with runescape and most other basic needs.

Unless he's running graphically intensive 3d games. Any stock laptop for $500-600 laptop will do more than fine. Tigerdirect has some really inexpensive laptops on sale now that surpass these specs.

It should have a minimum of 512MB of RAM if it's running Windows XP, 1GB if it's running Vista. Anything made within this year is good enough.

well i'm thiteen but i got my laptop with a broadband offer

mine is :

80gb which is enough memory for games films etc
15" screen
fujitsu seimens
windows vista already installed
rewritable something thingy

and you can get all of that maybe more ( i dont know much more about mine) for £400 so ask about memory when you buy it , anything from 70gb and over is a decent amount for somebody my age.

good luck.

if he wants it for that he'll probably only need less than 80g although it'll be tough to find one under 400.... what about a desktop computer (with a monitor and harddrive etc) they're cheaper and just as good, just less portable, also, try to get windows xp because games have been known to freeze on vista and he'll be used to this program from school

He's 13 years old, it is illegal to have a MySpace until the age of 16, usually parents are aware of this...

You are not going to get a good lap top for 400 dollars. Atleast 800, and thats cheap.

If it's for gaming your out of luck, check out hp laptops or go to costco/best buy etc. You should have went to Best Buy during Black Friday, I heard they had a laptop for $200 plus a printer.

Does a 13 year old really need his own laptop? You might find some really cheap bad one's on sale for around 400 but they're probably insanely bad.

my advice, is go with an HP they have nice graphics for video and music, but are very cheap. also dell, they have 3 kinds (from cheapest to more mula) the cheapest one should be fine for your son, later on he can add more to them as he needs it, so dont worry.
also check out bestbuy.com they have great deals and, 3 yrs of insurance including cosmetic. xoxo good luck!
