My daughter just turned 1 yr, and I'm ready to wean her off of breastfeeding. She is not happy with this decision! She has a milk allergy so the doctor wants her on soy milk, which is fine by me. I have tried to replace her afternoon feeding with milk, but she refuses to drink it. I don't really want to go "cold turkey" with her because I am afraid she will not get the calcium intake she needs. Does anyone have any tricks to get her to like her milk? I'd rather not use chocolate or strawberry syrups unless I absolultely have to. Regardless ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like she is not ready to wean.

If she was physiologically ready to wean, she wouldn't need milk at ALL.

There are dozens of different soymilks out there if you must persue this path. Keep trying them in various sippy cups until you find a combination that works. My kids drink Soy Dream and Rice Dream and sometimes Oat Milk (by Pacific foods) we take a calcium supplement too.

Mixing it with breast milk would probably help, as suggested, but don't put it in a bottle!! At one she is ready for a sippy cup anyway and that will just take weaning from the bottle away too. You might also try warming it a little, just a little. Also keep nursing her a couple of times,I nursed both of my children until16 months old and gave them milk during the day. Good luck!!

has your doctor told you about Lactaid? I have to give it to my 2 year old son because he is lactose intolerant he can still drink milk but he takes a half of a pill in the morning and it helps so much. he loves milk. You don't have to put baby on soy milk, their are several alternatives, like lactose free milk, and Lactaid pills. Please ask your doctor about these, if he doesn't listen, then talk to someone else, my doctor put my son on this and it is helpful he really hates soy milk to. And you don't have to stop nursing right away, try and cut down cold turkey isn't easier.

I breast fed my son from day one til he replaced into 11 months, from month 3 or 4 he all started gentle meals, he replaced into an ravenous infant, he replaced into 20 days early and weighed 5,14. He has been in the ninety% for his height and weight considering that he replaced into 2 months. Even now at 2 years he remains in the ninety%. I breast fed for 11 months and then he went onto an bottle of complete milk, he particularly stopped nursing of his very own determination. He replaced into on the bottle for approximately 5 cases an day til he replaced right into a million and a million/2 or so then we decrease them to mattress time and nap time, around 2 years he replaced into off the bottle all collectively. in lots of cases little ones are nonetheless on an bedtime bottle til they are 3 and in specific circumstances 4, staring on the moms and dads and the way the baby soothes him self. i think a similar with the pacifier, if the baby doesnt elect it then he/ she doesnt desire it, they'll discover the thank you to pacify them selves.

The only suggestion I have is to let someone else feed her the bottle. Babies can definetely smell the breastmilk from you and know you're holding out on them! Perhaps try mixing the soy formula with the breast milk and gradually increase the soy and decrease the breastmilk until she baby is drinking pure soy...

Mix the breast milk with the soy in decreasing amounts.

And try that pre-digested soy. It is expensive and smells nasty, but kids like it and it is easy for them to get enough in them, even if they don't really take to it.

And if she is hooked on taking it directly, try doing lots of snuggling and even holding her cheek to your breast while offering the bottle to fake her out.

But why quit early? She could easily go another 6 months.

I have to go with Gypsy's answer. I had the same issue with my 4 year old and he loved the Very Vanilla soymilk. So much in fact, that I had to start diluting it because he drank so much! No lie, I would go through a half gallon a day, when it started to be more than that, I'd cut it!!! Good luck!

pump some breast milk, mix it with the soy - start with mostly breastmilk with a little soy, and as she gets used to it, add more and more soy (and less and less breastmilk) until she's just drinking the soy.

try the vanilla soy if that works then you can slowly switch her to plain soy. Silk, even the plain is a little sweet.

Perhaps you could have someone else feed her the bottle, so that she isn't standing off for your breast?
Once she has had a few bottles then maybe you could try giving her one. Hope this helps.
