Answering the phone?

My parents used to tell me not to tell people they weren't there when I answered if someone called. Just tell the caller they were busy.

Did anyone else have to do that?

heck yea.....I hated it too....esp...when they would tell me not to lie.....

Of course, it was for your own safety. You don't want some bad person to know you as a kid are home alone. That is why I always told the caller my parents were on the crapper and that I could take a name and number and I would have them call back after they were all cleaned up.

Yes, all the time! And this was before we had the luxury of caller id.

Yes when I was at home my Mom would tell me to say she was in the shower all the time, and she would call them back

Of course, we all were told not to tell people our parents weren't home.

That's what we tell our son. We screen calls anyway, don't like to talk to someone on the phone, rather do it in person.

I would always tell them that they were in the shower. But then they'd ask if they could join them. I didn't know how to respond.





So I said sure.

I tell my son to do that. You never know who is on the other side of that phone call.

Did this apply to their friends and other family members too? Strange if it did. If not, then it was probably because they did not want to be pestered by telemarketers. ♥
