Of course, it was for your own safety. You don't want some bad person to know you as a kid are home alone. That is why I always told the caller my parents were on the crapper and that I could take a name and number and I would have them call back after they were all cleaned up.

Yes when I was at home my Mom would tell me to say she was in the shower all the time, and she would call them back

That's what we tell our son. We screen calls anyway, don't like to talk to someone on the phone, rather do it in person.

I would always tell them that they were in the shower. But then they'd ask if they could join them. I didn't know how to respond.
