I need help with my math homework...I don't want the answers, I just want steps on how to do it.

Sue paid $60 for a jacket that was on sale for 25% off the original price. What was the original price of the jacket?

Jan hiked a 50-mile trail in 3 days. The first day, she hiked 50% of the total distance. The second day, she hiked 25% of the distance that remained. How many miles did she hike the thrid day?

I tried doing both and I couldn't get them. Can someone help? Thanks!

1. set up your equation like so:
$60= 75%x (x is your variable representing the full price)
$60= .75x (now divide both sides by .75, and you have your full price)

2. so we know that 1/2 of the total distance, 50 miles, is 25 miles, right? now there are only 25 miles left to hike. again, set up a similar equation:

second day: 25% of 25 miles = 6.25 miles (of means to multiply)
third day: just subtract day 2 from the 25 miles to find day 3! hope this helps!!! just email me if you have any questions!!!

1. Sue paid $60 for a jacket that was on sale for 25% off the original price. What was the original price of the jacket?
60 = .75x

2. Jan hiked a 50-mile trail in 3 days. The first day, she hiked 50% of the total distance. The second day, she hiked 25% of the distance that remained. How many miles did she hike the thrid day?
x = 50
.50x + .25x +.25x = 50 calculate .25 x

OK. Sue bought the jacket for 60 which is 25% off the retail price.

$60 = X- 25%

That means that $60 is only 75% of (X) or the retail price.

$60 = 75% X

Now divide $60 by the 75% or .75 and you get the answer.

$60 / .75 = X

$80 = X
===============================================

Day one, Jan hiked 50% or .5 or 1/2 of the total distance

50 X .50 = 25.00 miles or (50 miles / 2) = 25 miles

Day two, Jan walked 25% of the remaining miles.

.25 X ( 50 miles - 25 miles )

.25 X 25 miles = 6 1/4 miles or 6.25 miles

On the third day Jan hiked the rest

Day one = 25 miles
Day two = 6.25 miles
Day three = 50 miles - (25 + 6.25) = 50 - 31.25 = 18.75 mile

Day three = Jan hiked 18.75 miles or 18 3/4 miles

Hope you understand now.

Original price = Final price/1-discount

Third day = 50 - 1st day - 2nd day

1st day = 50 (50%)= 25

2nd day = (50-25) (25%) = 6.25

Solve for third day.

Let, original price = $ x

25% off x = (25/100) * x = 0.25x

Remaining price = x - 0.25x = 0.75x

0.75x = 60
x = $ 80

She covered (50/100)* 50 = 25 miles on day one.
She covered (25/100)* 25 = 6.25 miles on day two.
Hence, she covered (50 - 25 - 6.25) = 18.75 miles on day three.
