I exclusively nursed for about 3 months, then went about a month nursing and formula...then my nipples started to crack so bad they bled when my son nursed, so i've stopped for about 2 days...

I had my period about 12 weeks after the birth of my child. He's 16 months now, still nurses, & I get my period every month. I think every woman is different.
You should go to your local Wal-Mart & go to the bottle/nursing section & there are balms that you can put on your nipples so they're not so sore/cracking. Also, when you nurse, when he unlatches, squeeze a little milk out & rub it on your nipples & areola. Sounds weird, but it really worked & I never used anything else. You may also want to consult a lactation consultant as he could be latching on wrong & this is why they're cracking. If you can, try to keep nursing- it's so much healthier for baby :)

I'm a nursing mother. My son is 14 months old. I got my period when he was 6 months old after he'd started solids two weeks earlier. I didn't stop nursing - just nursed him less and it came back. You could nurse your child tomorrow and probably ward off the period. Plus, it's good for your baby to continue. As for the cracked nipples, lanolin is great, and so are nipple shields. Good luck!

Mine started 4 weeks to the day that I stopped nursing both times - but I suppose every woman is different!

I started my period at two months and had one every month, along with the cramps, until she weaned me. That whole scenario didn't work for me.
