Assuming God is real, is it possible for Him to exist in an unknown dimension?

IMO, yes, absolutely!
In the belief system, God is above all natural laws... God created the natural laws!
And in the argument of physics, the possibility of alternate dimensions is a real possibility.
Therefore, God as an alternate dimension IS a possibility!

Wow, that question could be interpreted in two very different ways:

Way 1: "Do people who believe in God, do so because they are ignorant of physics?"

Way 2: "Do people who believe that God is supernatural, do so because scientists are currently ignorant about laws of physics which may govern the supernatural?"

Given the second part of your question, I believe you meant it in the 2nd Way.

I think there are certain characteristics that things have to have before they can come into the realm of physics (or science in general). In particular, they have to behave according to some kind of comprehensible rules. That doesn't mean physicists need to know "why" they follow those rules or how the rules came to be; it just means they need to be able to make some kind of reasonable description about what the thing does under various circumstances (in other words, a description of what the thing's "nature" is).

But the thing about God is: under most definitions She's omnipotent. That means He can do or become anything under any circumstances without any restriction. That means She follows no set of rules, which means it is impossible, even in principle, to describe His nature (in fact it could be argued that this means She _has_no_nature_). So my opinion is that omnipotence excludes God from the realm of physics.

On the other hand, if it turns out that God is _not_ technically omnipotent, but merely a "pretty darn powerful" creative force which nonetheless behaves according to comprehensible rules, then I think it's at least _possible_ that God could become a branch of physics some day.
