A Frenchman, an American Liberal, and an American Conservative are convicted of treason during the French Revolution and sentenced to the guillotine.

The Frenchman walks up to the guillotine, says “Viva la France”, puts his head in, and the executioner pulls the trip, the blade stops 1 inch from his neck. The executioner says “It is an act of God, you are free to go”.

The American Liberal walks up to the guillotine, says “Give me Liberty or Give me Death”, puts his head in, and the executioner pulls the trip, the blade stops 1 inch from his neck. The executioner says “It is an act of God, you are free to go”.

The American Conservative looks the executioner right in the eye and says “You know, if you put some grease in the grooves that thing would work at lot better”.

A good one and I haven't heard it before.

Also humorous is your suggestion that somehow, in defiance of recent history, Republicans could be considered...smart!

I am fully aware that average Americans who, for whatever reason, still associate themselves with what has degraded to become the current Republican Party, can be and are smart.

I have friends who are both intelligent and Republican, albeit, for very good reasons that have nothing to do with anything other than survival.

In the example I have in mind, I too would claim to be Republican, at least until I banked enough $ to disassociate myself.

As an example that we, the average American, are not nearly so simple as the handlers would believe I recall a quote by somebody smart:

“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.”
H. L. Mencken

For your enjoyment in repayment for the joke; I really hadn't heard it! lol

Opps! I read that "john_gal" apparently thinks that Thomas Paine...was a conservative (modern distorted definition)...Jaysus! Thomas Paine...a neo-con...I don't think so!

In John_gal's defense, I suppose that when the only famous people who think like neo-cone are idiots searching for that perfect village, one has to claim supporters so long gone that it is hoped that us average people will not remember.

Thomas Paine a con...another good one! lol

Actually the American conservative stayed in his cell and didn't open his mouth. Thomas Paine, the American patriot and writer of Common Sense, was in the Bastille during the "Terror". His cell was at the base of the stairs leading to the cells and recessed to the back. Everyday he listened to the jailors coming and taking people to their deaths and he survived by keeping his mouth shut for a change. They kind of overlooked the little cell back in the corner for months until the revolutionary leadership turned on each other and the Terror ended.
So the conservative never made it to the gallows.

Your rant poses some good points, the Liberal uses the stage to ponder a label belief to an audience, knowing that the system is broken, but feels he can garner points by fooling them of his elitist knowledge for his own personal gain.

The Conservative, points out the problem the liberal spinned...

The ACLU would then sue for the executioner referenced God

LOL!!! that was funny and quite true. Except a conservative would sell the executioner oil for the guillotine before he put his head in it.

...Oye ! (The American "conservative" wouldn't be in France to begin with)... The only times "they" to go to France is to rescue "them" from attacking Nations... and the only thing "they" ask of France is a piece of land to bury their dead that it cost to rescue them... (Saving Europe since 1917) ...an old WW2 soldier and his wife were visiting France a few years ago and they arrived in Paris... they got of the plane and were at the Customs gate when the French Officer demanded their Passports... The old man, forgot to take it out of his luggage and explained to the French Officer that the last time he was in France he didn't have to show his Passport... The Officer said.., "that's ridiculous ! every American must show their Passport, when did you come to France last, demanded the French Officer ?" ...The old man said... on June 6th 1944...when I came ashore I couldn't find a single Frenchman to show it to ! ...The customs Officer fell silent, saluted the old man and ushered him thru......
