What does it actually feel like when giving birth ?

I mean, I obviously know it hurts! But how would you put the pain into words?

The labor feels like the worst menstrual cramps you have ever had (very very crampy). I had an epideral at 5cm and then 1-1/2" later gave birth. The only thing I felt was A LOT of pressure in my bottom area right before I had to push her out. Since I had the epidural I didn't really feel anything when actually pushing her out.

When I had my daughter 13 years ago I had no idea what I was going to feel giving birth. I was a teenager and had no idea. Well I had a natural birth with no drugs. The pain was so excruciating.. It honestly felt like my vagina ripped in half when the baby came out. I had stitches going down to my anus. I couldn't even go to the bathroom because I thought the stitches were going to come off. It took a while for me to recover from it. I think that was the reason it took me so long to get pregnant again. Now I'm scare when June comes and is time to have my second baby.

I asked my mom this before i miscarried.

She said it mostly felt like a lot of pressure in her lower back and she couldn't really focus on how it felt in the genital area, but it was sore after. She said the pain in her back was more uncomfortable, since it made putting weight on her lower back hurt worse. She ended up having to sit up or squat with all 3 of her pregnancies. I think she did have an epidural with my brother, because he was HUGE!! (10lbs 6oz)

How do you know you are infertile? Did you have your ovaries removed or had chemo when you were young? If not, then there are pleanty of chances that you can get pregnant.

I speak from experience. I had PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) when i was younger and was told i couldn't conceive. Yet i ended up pregnant, although it resolved in miscarriage. My new doc said I have every chance to have a baby when i'm ready.

Gosh, that is hard. It really is almost like nothing I've felt before. I didn't get my epidural until really late, and before I got it I would say it was the most intense, stop you in your tracks, menstrual cramp feeling imaginable. It was really painful, but you get a break in between so it is manageable.

After the epidural I felt nothing until pushing. With the epidural, I would describe pushing as extreme pressure and stretching. The stretching was the worst feeling for me.

But seriously, all the horror stories make it sound much worse than it usually is.

firstly, just stay calm, i no thats easy to say, but if you do then it goes better, as people have said it depends on how you take pain, yes this is alittle true, and all depends on pain relief. when the contractions are strong, then it does get a bit scary, thats when i wanted to get to hospital,( was on my own from 11am till 2.15) breathing excises forget them, you dont get a chance to use them, or think about it. it hurts the most when the baby is coming through the birth canal, but hun, dont get stressed, ask the midwife if you can have a bath, that worked for me, was in it for an hour. only in labour for an hour and 56 mins, was so quick and easy, for my first!!! was in birthing pool, only gas and air, now im a nightmare for pain!!! you will be fine, just think it will be all worth it in the end, good luck hun x

As many other respondents have replied, it is different for each woman. It also doesn't help if the woman across the hall is screaming her lungs out when you are trying to breath and relax through each contraction. It can be very uncomfortable but you can always work with your medical support to find the best pain relief for you, if you decide to go that way. Besides, once they put that little tiny amazing child in your arms you forget the discomfort of labor.

I would say it is just a constant burning. It's a pain that is hard to explain in words b/c it's something, for a first mom, that is a feeling you have never experienced before. It is the absolute worst pain the world but as soon as the baby is out, it's gone.

You can't put it into words because it's just something that is NOT LIKE ANYTHING else in the whole world.

it's an INTENSE proloonged pain *sorry but thats the truth i dont wanna sugarcoat this for u *
the good thing is that you forget the pain right after you hold ur baby in ur arms!!!!!!!!!!!! it's a pain that's soon forgotten!!!

good luck and there are epidurals for pain management!

Nobody has the same experience. I know women I would consider "wimpy" about pain who said it was pretty easy for them without drugs. I consider myself very tough and I was screaming until I got an epidural. You just can't know what you'll go through until you get there, so don't stress about it. If it's exceptionally painful for you, you can use drugs, and if it ends up being fairly easy, you won't have to make that choice.
