Discipline comes from a Greek word which means learning. To discipline someone actually means to instruct that person. In a marriage you should not discipline each other through punishment, but you can talk about establishing norms and rules that you want in your marriage and when one or the other goes outside those boundaries then you need to talk about how to deal with that.

Another context in which the term discipline is used is in a type of sexual activity called Bondage and Discipline which includes restraining a partner's movement with chains , rope, etc, and roleplaying games such as sex slave. In this context "discipline" can include spanking, whipping, caning or other forms of corporal "punishment" as well as the "authority figure" ordering the "underling" to do some task- with which the underling complies as "discipline." This IS a game however, not real life.

I asked a question about disciplining my wife a cpl. days ago and the question was within a B&D context, but most people who answered it thought I was talking about real life and called me the lowest thing in the universe!

If you are talking about real life and not sexual roleplaying any corporal punishment or anything that causes mental duress could be considered abuse. When I really want to discipline my wife I let her have her way in hopes that she will learn from errors. Yes cruel, I know! Or we just lie in bed and I explain to her what is wrong and we talk it over.

There's a large gap between discipline and abuse, but I can see where you might get lost in the definitions of both of these. However, what is it that he's disciplining the wife on? How to cook and clean? The fact that she didn't get home on time? Is it really discipline or is it just his own preferences of her getting home on time that we're talking about?

First, A wife should not be disciplined, she is not a child! Second if you feel that it is more than the occasional venting over a dispute than it is time to get out. I speak from experience. No man should "discipline" a woman!

A man has NO right to discipline his wife in any way, shape, or form. Any kind of "discipline" probably constitutes some sort of abuse, whether it be mental or physical. YOU are responsible for YOU...a husband is not. A marriage license is a partnership, not an ownership.

You don't say whether this is a religious or cultural standard in your relationship that the wife be obligated to accept discipline from her husband. I know in some faiths and culture the man is the head of the household. If a man is to rule as "king of the castle", he must rule with a gentle heart else his "subjects" will rebel.

NEVER EVER does it give him the right to belittle, name-call, hit, push, poke, withhold affection, or any of the other things a man can do to break his wife's spirit.

Be a KINDLY KING or ABDICATE

WHAT? A man should not be disciplining his wife unless it's in a fun sexual manor! If my man tried to discipline me in that way I'd kick his a** right out the door! I'm no child or animal!
