The only reason I'm trying in school right now is to get into a good college, I don't genuinely enjoy most of my classes. I take honors/AP classes, but I can't figure out how to become more motivated.

Keep your eyes on the prize, it's all about controlling your destiny and having personal freedom someday. Not only do you need to do well in HS to get into a good college but then you need to do good in college in order to go out and increase your chances of having a successful and fulfilling life. Of course with that said there are people who are very successful who have no formal education and the definition of "success" can mean different things to different people. Some people define success monetarily or with titles, other define it by being able to do something they love. The point is in order to give yourself the freedom to do whatever it is in life you want to do, having a good education behind you will greatly increase your chances of being able to that. In the end you can have a college degree and still choose to flip burgers, or dig ditches if you want but if you don't have an education you may only have those jobs as your option.

When you decide what you want in college or you decide what your career is going to be, everything will be clear. Being a good student is a really great accomplishment. I screwed around and was an average student, and I went to college and got my degree. But if I could go back, I would have done alot more to get better grades.... Once you get to college you can make up your mind as to what you want to do with your life and that is really the point...

That's what motivated me and it worked. Think of it this way - the harder you work now the better you will perform in college. I got to college and was overly prepared which allowed me to take on the challenge of college work straight away. Other kids struggled with the independence and discipline on top of the new way of thinking.

The harder I pushed myself in high school the better. The more vocal I was in class the better. It was all prep for college.

Being able to adapt to the new style of teaching in college then opened up the opportunity to enjoy it more.

What is your goal besides college? Maybe focus on the subjects more and ask more questions. Maybe join some clubs or activities or sports. Maybe do some volunteer work. You have to make the effort. Try different things. The more you learn in school then the easier college will be for you.

If your motivated in school to make it into college, isn't that the point?

In college you will be motivated by a good paying job and probably not like your classes or homework.

I'm not sure what else you could be motivated for?

Take a look at a calendar. Take a look at your watch.

You need to be able to see beyond a page or two of the calendar and beyond a revolution or two of the watch.

If all you're aiming for is the next step in education, you're taking a short view.

Life is a long thing, and having short term goals is fine, but looking at the big picture (where do I REALLY want to be in 25 years?) can be a big help in guiding your decisions.

Well, have you considered that the fault may lie with the classes and not with you? Wanting to get to college is a good motivation. When you get to college you can choose what you want to do and it will probably be more enjoyable.

Thats the same for most people (like me for instance) and theres nothing wrong with that. In fact, thats the best motivation you can have in school.

Some of the people i know only try in school so they do not fail or so their parents do not yell at them
