Yesterday we had a plumbing issue and water flooded the bathrooms and some of the water ran onto our carpets. We are renters and the landlord decided that the damage wasn't severe enough to replace the carpet.

Okay....well now it's been 24 hours and the carpet is still wet. I tried my best to soak up the water, let a fan blow on it. It is slowly but surely drying.

Is there anything I can put on the carpet to stop it from smelling? Or to help it dry quicker?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. =)

Renting a steam cleaner is your best bet. Check your local grocery store to see if they have anything available. If your worried about the dampness and not mildew or mold, then you can use a standard shop vac with the floor attachement.

Rent shop vac to try and suck up as much of the water as you can. You may need to peel the carpet up and try to dry out the pad, too. Fabreze is the best thing to get rid of odor, but you may need the services of a professional if it got wet enough that mold could be developing.

Good luck!

go to a hardware store and rent a wet/dry vacuum, so you can suck the water out of the carpet before it molds.

You could rent a steam cleaner. You can use the hand wand and extract as much water as you can, then you can use the cleaner on it. I've done that before, and it worked for me. But I didn't have to rent one, I have my own Hoover.
