I'm watching the movie Day Zero right now about the lives of 3 guys that got drafted. Three ordinary guys that opened the mailbox read the letter and found out they were to report in 30 days to the US Military and leave there careers, lives, routines, friends, love ones and pets behind.

I really dont know how I would react, I mean, defend my country? Am I really doing that by leaving my home to go kill another man in his?

What would you do if you got the notice? In those 30 days? Would you run?

Wives, girlfriends, sisters? What would you do?

For this war, Id flee. If it was my boyfriend, I'd flee with him. (we live together and he feels the same way I do about this war). I dont have a brother, but if I did, I would support him no matter what he chooses to do.

Im not being forced to fight an illegal war that i totally dont believe in.

If it was for a war I believe in, I my answer may be different.

I would think it was a joke since the draft has been over for years. If I were of age and if there was a draft I would try to join the arm services of my choice. That's what I did when I got my draft notice years ago. Rather than being drafted in the Army I went and joined the Navy. Not a bad idea at the time. For four years I traveled to places that I would have never gotten to see if I had not enlisted and I learned a trade. Yes, I could have gone to Canada but being realistic that's was not much of an option. I could have never came home without the fear of being arrested or etc. So I did my stint in the service and got it over with. I learned alot and made some good friends while doing it.

I'd call the postoffice and ask why they are delivering mail 34 years late.

Seriously, that already happened to me in 1969. Back in those days, with a war going on, you packed your bag and went to the draft board where they loaded you on a bus. If you passed the physical, they loaded you on another bus and off to basic you went. If you didn't show up at the draft board, they came to your home, and continued to search for you until they found you, and then they dragged you kicking and screaming off to basic.

The draft for Viet Nam was law at the time. Many of us joined to have a choice rather than sweat out getting drafted.
I had one friend moved to Canada-still lives there, never has been back to the USA.

With the powers that are and the powers soon to be the draft is inevitable. I am so glad that I am to old to worry about that. All you young whipper snappers should keep your hair short lose about 20 pounds GET into shape a real war, not King George's looking to impress daddy, could start anytime.

Its your last day so dont fret..Do your work and ignore the immaturity of your Boss..He is being a butt because he feels he can since this is your last day. Be professional all the way around!!! Give him no reason to be upset with you!! Kill him with kindess!!! When the day is over, kindly leave your position. You dont have to use him as reference, use a co-worker, or someone else of a higher authority who knows your work ethic..He is just being a but because he cant control the situation.

I would contact the Selective Service Administration and inform them that their records are incorrect, as I am above the age subject to the draft. If necessary, I would provide appropriate documentation to that effect.

I'd probably be a little pissed, since I'm a freshman in college right now. But I'd probably go anyway...if I got out alive there'd be stories to tell my grandchildren.

People seem to look down on the military...but it sure beats living life vicariously through movies and videogames, only to wake up on weekdays and find yourself in a boring dead-end job that you'd rather forget than remember.

Its a really terrifying and frightening thought. But...we really should have the draft again, because not enough young people (myself and my generation included) sacrifice for our country, and a year or two of required service would do us all some good. It seems like a death sentence in a time of war...but the ones who come back always seem to want to go back to be with their buddies. Maybe they know something we don't...

I would protest the war and the government publicly and loudly until the very minute i had to leave for the war. I would then serve to the best of my ability. but would still voice my opposition to the war.

send a letter to the draft board saying I'm a conscious objector. thankfully they don't draft people anymore. one can be a patriot without being willing to go to war. if all else fails, I'd move out of the country
