Well personally, when I read the first two narnia books I found them a little boring. That is why I never finished the series so I don't know if they get any better. The movie for the second narnia book (The lion, the witch and the wardrobe) was pretty well done though. From the books, I have to go with Harry Potter. I found it more intresting and more mysterious. That's why I read every one of the books. I honestly loved the Harry Potter series and I recommend you read them if you haven't already.

The two are different enough but still good enough to make such a question unimportant.
Considering that Lewis, along with Tolkien, defined the genre that Rowling would later write in, Narnia is better because the techniques and elements Rowling used in Potter were first devised their. One might call Potter derivative, in that regard.
Naria has also stood the test of time; it has been loved by fans for decades. Potter appears to be good enough to stand the test of time, but it hasn't yet.
Narnia is also much shorter; the entire series can fit in the same space as about 2 of the latter Potter books (if not less). That is neither a good or bad thing, but rather something to be aware of.
Additionally, Potter is a series, but Narnia is a Chronicles. Potter follows Harry himself, Narnia follows our world's interactions with another world. A few characters reoccur, but often Narnia involves new characters each time.

They are both excellent series; however, I think the Harry Potter series is better. The Chronicles of Narnia is a very good read but at times it can be too serious. I like the Harry Potter series because you get a little bit of everything...drama, humor, excitement. Harry Potter books are worth reading over and over again.

Narnia is probably better for younger kids. Older kids will see through the rather heavy handed religious allegory in the books and be disappointed at the end. harry potter on the other hand is probably better for older kids and young teens as the issues facing harry (especially in the later books in the series) are a bit too dark and complex for young kids to enjoy.

I prefer HP, but I can understand the argument that Narnia created the genre.
I loved Narnia as a kid, but really disliked the series when I reread it a couple of years ago. I found it very overt and preachy, with only one message.
HP also has themes of good and evil, but they are more subtle. The story is what dominates.
Narnia is more of a polemic, which just isn't my style.

Narnia. It's more my style, I guess. More of a fantasy than Harry Potter is, in my opinion.
