Start with ceareal at 4 months, i also gave her beginner jar food at 4 months (docs recommendation) I started with veggies, one new one per week, then meats, then fruits. Big people food, we started giving her little nibbles of bread, mashed potatoes, chickn etc, at about 8 1/2 months. Hope I helped, Good luck!

Before 6 months is not too young, thats why on the jars they say "beginner" then u move on to "6 months" then 8 Months and so one. As long as the baby still gets formula/breastmilk. Think about how fast your baby is growing, an all liquid diet for 6 months?? ask your doc if your in doubt. And the guy under me- dont do that- thats horrible. All that processed junk- babys dont need. If your going to give your baby stuff off your plate it has to be healthy, their tummies cant handle it. Especially stuff you know isnt great for us (pizza for example) its worse for them

Also when you start jar food its very important to start with veggies, than meats than fruit. If you start with good stuff (fruit) they wont eat veggies or meat, they will hold out for the fruit. I did it this way and my daughter will eat ANYTHING, my friend started with fruit, and her son wont eat anything but friut and cereal.

If the baby is formula fed, start at 6 months

If breastfed no need for the first year. But if you want to anyway, 6 months.

Before 6 months is TOO YOUNG.

"Most parents have heard reputable people-their doctor, family members, and other parents-say that it's safe to introduce solids to their baby when she is around four to six months old. (A "solid" is defined as any food other than breast milk or infant formula.) What you aren't often told is that most children are not developmentally ready to digest solids until at least six months of age or later." from http://babyfit.sparkpeople.com/articles.asp?id=712

When they can't sleep 6hrs so I can stay human. My kids needed food early. They had to have soy formula so they needed food to fill them. I started bland food in the food processor about 6mo. My kids were not typical. My daughter walked early & at 7mo she was out of the crib. She never had to have help to support her head like my son did. She could hold her own. My son was on the loose and running by 8 months where he could take off. Some kids I see can't walk by a year yet. Generally if their weight goes down, they can't sleep or they are trying to suck down way too many bottles back to back, start with the baby cereal & use your gut instincts. You are MOM!
P.S. some people can't breastfeed & some people can't afford several jars a day so they find other ways. My kids aren't fat & have always done well.

Buy the book "What to expect the first year." Under one year should not have egg whites, nuts and peanuts, chocolate, honey, cow's milk, wheat, citrus juice and citrus fruits, tomatoes and strawberries. 4 to 6 months you can start introducing solids with different textures and flavors. The bottle or breast is still the primary meal. The book will have heaps of information

I think it depends on your babies growth.. I have two boys that were exclusively breastfed for a yr. and I started them on cereal around 4 months... I then around 6 months started them on jar baby food (same fruit for 3 days/switch for 3 days etc..) and with my older child I went to about a yr. on jarred food....Stage 3.... However, with my second he seemed more ready for table food at around 12 months... So, I stopped the baby food and gave them both table food... They both are still drinking whole milk they are on the thin side..

good luck

I started at close to 6 months...I think it was 10 days before he turned 6 months. After doing my research and asking my pediatrician about it, I simply started my son on avocados and then onto other fruits and vegetables.

my son by 3 months was eating table food just like i was i would make mashed potatoes or mac and cheese i would grind it up and give it to him when he was hungery......he had his first bite of pizza when he was 5 months old......i did not buy much baby food cuz it is basically the same thing that i made at home just already smushed and all ready to eat so i just did it my self......as for juice i started giveing him juice around 5 months just to give him something besides formula all the time.....and the cereal uhhh he was getting that around 2 months i was not on wic and it would make him fuller and he seemed more content when he was eating cereal during the day and night......good luck and if you still have questions call your babies doctor and see what they say
