I know that the moon regulates the tides of our oceans, but would there be any other impact on the earth if the moon was destroyed by an asteroid say? Do we need a tide or could we live without it? I guess that's 2 questions!

A lot of organisms depend on the tide to survive. Without it they would not live. That would be one of the largest effects that I can see in your scenario.

If our moon was destroyed the effects on earth would be massive. The most immediate effect would be the loss of communications with the world satellites in space, both maned and unmaned: they all depend on mirrors that are on the the moon that reflects various waves OR signals to and from earth. Then the oceans currents and waves will go rogue causing major shifts in magnetic poles and in so the weather will rapidly worsen. Last effects will be the air in which we breath will become less and less dense, plant life will die in some areas and other places Plants, Animals and Insects will have an super increase in size. New land will Terra form into jungles and rain forests. The only other possibility would be the oceans will rise above the land in the northern hemisphere poles will shift rapidly causing a new longterm ice age.

There would probably be a whole lot of other complications if the mood were to be distroyed. First off the moon helps keep the earth safe by absorbing large amounts of meteors. It also might throw off the earths rotation around the sun (and spin for that matter). Also it would be really dark at night. And likewise the tides would go away.

Most of the problems would come from animals that are not quick enough to adapt to the change. Animals that hunt at night (which rely on low levels of light) could die off. Fish who breed in tide-waters would also probably die off. Domino-effects could also happen.

Or the earth's bizarre rotation would just mess everything up over thousands of years. hard to say. it's always been there.

The debris would be very unforgiving if it did explode or be destroyed by an asteroid.

Earth would still have tides because the sun also helps cause them, but they would be far less than with our moon in place. It's highly unlikely that an asteroid big enough to shatter the moon will impact it, if it did happen Earth's surface would be pounded by one helluva lot of high-velocity debris.

One thing that so far hasn't been mentioned is that the moon also helps stabilize Earth's rotational axis. Right now that axis wanders slowly on a 26,000-year cycle, which in turn affects to some extent our seasons. Without the moon's stabilizing influence, that 26,000-year cycle would be influenced in such a way that our seasons would be significantly changed.

i do no longer think of it would have a heck of particularly some result. properly, assuming that no products of it hit the Earth, which they probable would. Assuming the moon have been destroyed yet no longer something hit the Earth because of the fact of it, then the tide would probable be affected, because of the fact the moon performs a place interior the oceans' tide. it is approximately it i think of.

Well since you know the thing of the oceans, i don`t have to bother answering that. The other thing is that if moon was destroyed there would be probably his leftovers hmmm...... everywhere. And it would be miracle if nothing would have hit us. Anyway it`s best for us for the moon to stay as is he is now.

According to science, the earth would wobble erratically on it axes and screw up the seasons. Or at least that is what they said on the science special 'If We Had No Moon'.

We wouldn't get a tide. This probably cause nature to re-model itself a little bit.
And a lot of Muslim countries would change they're flag

Watch out for the oncoming moon debris.
We'd be done for, I'd imagine.

The earth will be showered with debris, and we will all die, then yahoo answers will cease to exist and no one will care.
