My husband passed unexpectedly from a heart attack not long ago and a neighbor of ours who does electrical and A/C work and enjoys doing handyman type things also, for friends, etc., asked me to let him know anytime there's anything like that he can help me with, which I very much appreciate. As it turns out, I do have a couple things - 1) installing a motion detector light in both my front and back yards and 2) installing some new mini-blinds on my back door - that I would love to accept his help with, but have no idea how much to offer him when he's done. I also wonder if that is appropriate to do without hurting his feelings as I am almost sure his offer was meant to be at no charge (except supplies, of course) but I also don't want to assume that it was. Help! Can anyone tell me what is fair to pay for those jobs so I can at least offer him the cash for them??
P.S. No hidden agenda, he's just a good neighbor with a cute gf and absolutely no need for little old lady, me! ; )

How To Install Mini Blinds

It all depends on what he has to do in order to install the motion lights. Is there an existing light at these locations.
if so it would probably be a matter of changeing fixtures.
If no light Exists at these locations that means he is going to have to pull wire Install light boxes first.
So you see it all depends on the circumstances.
Most Electricians charge $25. to $30. per Hr.

Handy-men for installing one set of mini-blinds .. something very easy to do .. usually charge about $15 to 20 an hour. I'd offer him $15. Just say ... " I know you said there is no charge .. but I'd like to give you a little something for your help." .. If he won't take it .. then just say "thank-you" and leave it at that. Good Luck ! :)

Think hard before hiring an unqualified handyman to do electrical work. Hanging blinds and such is fine. Blinds will not burn the house down or kill you.

Ask him what he charges, if he says nothing, bake him a cake.
