I really hate to be tough on anybody but in this instance I have got to tell that you really do not know what you are talking about.
The world of pop music is easily divided into two separate worlds: Before the Beatles and After the Beatles
In the BB world singers and groups sang songs that were written by people who worked in such places like the Brill Building -1650 B'way NYC-
AB almost all groups were not considered to be " real groups " unless they wrote their own music
BB-artists didn't own their own music
AB -many of them did -or at least tried really hard to
BB-Production values were a whole lot different and the music world had a monotone sound that came thru single speaker in the center of your dashboard The exception of course being Phil Spector
AB and specifically the producing genius of George Martin on Sgt Pepper. The music sounded vastly different and people just kept experimenting with layering sounds .To accomodate that sound play-back equipment had to improve drastically
BB The producers and arraiingers were the kings and the artists were just hired hands that could be plugged in as needed-see the current crop of chick singers-and formulaic music ruled
AB the artist was king and being unique and different [but not too different ] was good and often encouraged. The music got better
The list goes on but the bottom line is that because the Beatles were the instument of change they can never ever be over rated.

Overrated compared to what?

I am not a huge Beatles fan, but the imprint they left upon music is timeless and incredibly important.

Ask any true musician what they thing of the Beatles and you will get a compliment, even if they dont even play rock music.

The Beatles led the mid-1960s musical "British Invasion" into the United States.

Their clothes, styles, and statements made them trend-setters, while their growing social awareness saw their influence extend into the social and cultural revolutions of the 1960s.

Everyone can have their own opinion about what "overrated" means but the reality is that the Beatles were not only the most influencial contributors to changes in music and the recording industry but also to society, in general. Anyone who can't see the effect the Bealtes had on the world in the 60's and the lingering effects of their influence today are simply delusional. Ask succesful musicians from KISS to Led Zepplin, from Elvis Costello to Red Hot Chilli Peppers and I figure a guess that 9 out of 10 "real" musicians" would say that they were influenced by them in some way. I, being one of them.

You're funny. The Beatles are not overrated. Why do you care if people like them. I love the Beatles and the paved the way for rock n roll. If you hate them so much, stop asking so many questions abut them. Do you secretly like them? Stop wasting your time with these questions.

Trust Me and take some well meant advice, hack on whoever You like in here but........
Leave The Beatles out of it, for your own wellbeing.
Diss the Beatles and this room gets uber-vicious

Besides The Beatles along with The Stones laid the foundation upon which all Rock is built, kinda hard to everrate that.

I can say the exact same thing about every other hugely successful act. They're all overrated. That's why they became very successful while other acts the critics loved but had little in the way of airplay and music sales didn't. Just because many people happen to like a particular act, that doesn't mean that everybody has to like them. I personally don't care for Pink Floyd but I know most people do. I wasn't impressed when I first heard them in the 1970s and am still not. I've met a lot of people who don't like Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, or Elvis Presley. There's nothing wrong with not liking a group or artist and people should not be made to feel like idiots because they have a different opinion than most other people.

Is your question about the Beatles, or people's ability to admit things?

Just because you think roy orbison is cooler lol i need to laugh. The beatles are cool, wrote great songs and where pioneers of the 60's. Even by record sales they are one of the most popular bands of the time and they still sell c.ds today. Get over it man, people like the beatles better than roy! and that includes me

Because they CHANGED the music industry. You're clearly ignorant of the facts surrounding The Beatles. Go pick up SHOUT!: The Beatles In Their Generation by Philip Norman and maybe you won't be so ignorant. Thanks :)
