No way. You and your friend may have a lot in common that you share, but your friend may have interests outside of the relationship that he/she shares with someone else. If all three of you like the topic at hand you might have something, but what if your friend likes something that you really aren't into? Choose your own friends and do so wisely. You've gotta bas it on what you expect from a friend and what you are willing to give to a friend.

I have made friends that way. I've even become closer friends with some. But some of the others are just people I put up with.

No, I have to get to know the person first to decide if I like them or not. I have had friends who were friends with people who I just could not stand.

Aha! There you are... nice to see you!
I definitely do consider friends of friends to be friends, until I have reason not to! Once removed, of course.... My friends have good judgement, but, ...as there is always the realization that they've chosen to be MY friend.... I reserve whole-hearted approval until I personally get to know them well.
Is that stated confusingly enough? (If not, I can ALWAYS improve on the lack of clarity....-heh-) }:>

No, I consider a friend of a friend to be an acquaintance. But perhaps later, my friend's friend will become my acquaintance turned friend!

Some are friends, some aren't. I've learned that some are very mean people.

No, a friend stood the test of time, their friend hasn't stood up for anything on my watch yet.

no. They are associates...but if I don't personally know them, they aren't friends. They have an in....and I would probably accept them faster...but some of my friend's friends are people I truly despise......
