I don't think it will end on that day. But it could be the beginning of the end, toward the start of a new era. Although before this era begins there will be trouble.
What probably will happen is major world disaster such as the impacting of and asteriod on the earth. Followed by a massive world war in which radical Islamics take over the Middle East unite it under one empire and proceed to wage war on the West by invading Europe.
2012 is probably the the date where things get started, although it may take some years for for it to fully develop. Biblical and Nostrodamic prophesies also coincide with the Mayan calendar. I believe it will happen.

That date is barely the final of four completely distinctive dates countless nutcases and cranks have been advertising for the tip of the international this 365 days. final 365 days they has six such dates (and between the promoters, Harold camping out, who had 2 distinctive yet surely specific such dates, is now locked up in a "nursing homestead", barred from desktops). in reality, only because of the fact the 365 days 2000 there have been over 2 dozen dates distinctive jerks have promoted. the single effective prediction is that on December 22 they are going to be too busy inventing dates in 2013 to make an apology for his or her idiocy this 365 days.

The 2012 date on the Mayan calender isn't the end of the world, but rather the beginning of a new cycle, much the same way that our annual calender ends on December 31. It doesn't mean that we should prepare for the end of everything, it just means that this calender has run out and a new one is beginning.

The Mayans Calendar, which is not predicting the end of the world in 2012, but the start of a new era on December 21st, 2012. The year 2012 marks the end of the "Great Cycle." When it came to mathematics, time and calendars, the Maya were geniuses. Believing that time repeated itself in cycles.

I'm not clearing my calendar for the day. What did the Mayans know? Their world ended a long time ago.
