No, it's irresponsible. They can wait until the person is no longer a student.

No. Sometimes it's really disracting when your teacher is good looking and all. And maybe sometimes they are really young. But can you imagine how other students would feel about this, how would they grade?. It's tottally unproffessional. And teachers should not be looking at their students in that way. The maturity difference is huge. If they wait until the student is no longer their student, and the student is no longer at that school, and the student is not a minor, then maybe. But still, can you imagine how much respect the teacher would lose?

I can't imagine how akward that would be at my school. And the rumors would get pretty bad, parents would get upset, the list goes on and on. So in the end, teachers should not date students.

No, this is a bad idea. Students are just that. They are there to learn and become productive citizens. They have enough problems and challenges in this stage of their life to deal with. They don't need to add dating a teacher to the mix. Teachers who want to date students seriously need to seek help. They should want to date people who are of the same intelligence and maturity level they are. So if they want to date a student they must be behind in this area and probably should seek other employment opportunities until they can control their whims. Students, don't date teachers. Teachers don't date students. It is just not a best practice.

Only if (1) the student is no longer in the teacher's class and has no expectation of ever being in one again, (2) the student is over 18, and (3) neither is married or committed to anyone else.

If these conditions prevail, it should be all right. I know of several good, long-lasting marriages that grew out of such relationships--including that of my own parents.

Not when they're still your student and of course only if what your speaking of is in college. Dating a student can create a great deal of conflict in the classroom. Avoid it at all possibilities and if it's meant to be you can wait till later.

Not if there is an ongoing instructor/student relationship no matter if they are both adults, or not, and secondly their should never be a relationship other than a professional one, if one of them is not an adult.

No, not only because of the disparity of ages but because it is unethical when one person in a relationship is judging the accomplishments of the other.
