Yes he was a 16th century Metaphysical Poet and one of my favorites. I especially love his Holy Sonnets - 10 Death Be Not Proud and 14 Batter My Heart-Three Personned God. (Better known as The Holy Rape). Another beautiful poem is The Sun Rising in which he eludes to the marriage of Jesus Christ and Mary Madgelene. (A LONG time before Dan Brown did!) For that reason, he is long rumored to have belonged to the Sion of Priory and perhaps been one of the keepers of the Secret of the Sangreal. He was a very interesting man. An Anglican priest who refused his law degree because he refused to take the Oath of Supremecy. He was jailed for marrying an underaged woman who was the descendent of Sir Thomas More. He had if I recall correctly 11 children with her. Many of his poems deal with his lifelong dilemma between being a man of God and a man of the flesh. His Holy Sonnets and much of his other poetry is both religious and sexual in nature. Many of his poems were written for his wife - they had a very great love. Upon her death he wrote the 17th Holy Sonnet about her death.

I have written academic papers on him a few times. I love his work. And I am not sure what my age has to do with knowing who John Donne is. My son would probably tell you I was old enough to have known him personally.

Yeah, he was an English poet who wrote about death and the metaphysics. I believe he live in the mid-1600's, but I am not one hundred percent sure. I am fifteen.
