That being said, the basin drains very slowly. I believe the stoppage in the basin drain is preventing the vent air from allowing the tub to drain properly and is forced to suck from the toilet...Could this be correct thinking? Thank you so much for your help.....

sounds like you don't have a vent up to the roof or your vent is pluged on the roof

Probably a stopped up stack vent. There should be a pipe poking through the roof above your bathroom. Climb up and shine a flashlight down it. Make sure it's not stopped up with a bird's nest or something.

you have a plugged vent tube coming down from the roof
