Things were less complicated in those times. People cherished what really mattered; their family and time in the world, the sunsets and the sunrises, and those mournful utterances of the locusts.

Although the lifestyle of today’s present society is convenient, I think that because of our many technological advancements we have lost something that was previously innately ingrained inside of us: a sort of appreciation for beauty.

The first one looks correct as well as the second.

However, if you aren't positive the second one is correct, you could word it like this:

you could also replace the colon with an em dash (with microsoft word, put in two dashes between the two words, no spaces, and auto correct will change it to the longer dash). According to my advanced composition professor, dashes are "in."

oops you need to change that first semicolon to a colon. You use a colon for items in a list.

You should use colons in both places. Each one introduces a list (even though the second list has only one item).

the first one is not correct.
because you are listing something (family, time, sunset, etc.) you should use ":" insted of ";".
semicolons are only used correctly if there is a subject and verb on both sides of it.
