You should definitely eat lunch of some sort, especially if you are at school and so need the energy for doing the mental exercise of schoolwork! Plus if you are looking after a small child you will need all the energy you can get! However I would advise you not to eat a school-provided lunch as they are generally high in salt and fat and so more likely to make you gain weight. Bring in your own lunch - it could be sandwiches or salad or something more interesting like soup to reheat or in a thermos, or pasta. Then when you get home if you are hungry have a piece of fruit as a snack or something and then a proper dinner in the evening of something healthy like chicken or fish. Make sure you eat breakfast as well, though I know it can be tempting to skip if you are trying to lose weight. But it really is the most important meal of the day and if you eat something healthy like toast or cereal (not something like coco pops, healthy ones like shredded wheat or bran flakes with chopped fruit or yoghurt to make them actually taste of something!) or even just a yoghurt and a banana will keep you healthy, fill you up and help you to lose weight. If you are not sure or worried about what kinds of things you should be eating, best to talk to your doctor. They will know what you should have and may send you to a nutritionist or dietician to help you plan healthy, sensible meals to give you energy and help you lose weight at the same time. Good luck!

well, I am going to a private school and I love the lunches. We order food from restaurants. Of coarse you can't buy lunch every day b/c the lunches are $4.
I hated the lunches at my old school. You might as well have been eating throw up.

yeah, when I was in school (graduated in 1973) in a small town, the cooks COOKED lunch, from scratch, we had wonderful lunches , like fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy and corn and homemade dinner rolls - or hot roast beef sandwiches, or meatloaf, or homemade creamed chicken on biscuits, those meals were friggin delish. School lunches suck now. When I go eat with my daughter there is rarely a single choice I can choke down. Ugh.

Elementary school lunch was the best! My favorite was the fish and cheese sandwiches, ravioli and those weird chicken burger things.

Nope! We got reduced lunches, and sometimes I'd use my quarter to buy a pack of fruit snacks instead!
