the calvin cycle would be active when its dark. however, this is only up to a point as the calvin cycle uses the ATP and NADPH produced in the light reactions. the calvin cycle can only go so long without the light reactions, after that it will become inactive and the plant will probably die.

during light reaction,solar energy is harvested and stored in the form of chemical energy.so light reaction requires sun light to occur.so it is inactive in dark.then calvin cycle does not require light to occur.so it is active in dark.
