you need to get to the boot menu, they key to press is different on differet computers, watch the top of the screen when you boot up it should show on the top line.
Once you get to the boot menu you need to move your cd drive to a higher spot on the list than your hard drive, then save and reboot with the cd in.

When the computer is booting and in the black screen there should be a key you can press to bring up a boot menu and you would select the CD Drive. BIOS is basically used to select boot sequences as to what you want it to boot to first.

Look on the very first screen when the laptop boots. Normally it will tell you want key to press to get into the set up. (Different for every make and model)

I have had to do that already. It's called a reninstall/repair.
1.Start up your computer.
2.Press F12 key. This will bring up a screen where you can
select the place where your computer will start from. It
will have INTERNAL HD hi-lited.
3. Using your arrow keys select CD/DVD/CD-RW Device.
4. Open and insert your CD if you haven't already done so
before restarting computer.
5.Press ENTER
6. Follow the instructions in the link below to determine
exactly what to do next. This is from the MS Support
knowledge database in their support section.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/doug92.mspx
I have also included a link to your laptop users manual in case you don't have it. It's in a pdf format so you'll need Adobe Reader to access it and Adobe Reader is free. I've also included a link to that as well.
Manual link:

Adobe Reader (Now a days this is already installed on
computers prepackaged with software but in case not with yours):

Select "Get Adobe Reader" under the "Next Steps" heading
Good luck
