I recieved a gift years ago of a baby photo etched into metal and I wanted to do something similar with the reciept but have no idea where to start.

If you want to do it all yourself you can scan it, mirror it, print it onto transfer paper ( you usually need a laserjet for this) iron that onto a type of metal, and then either do a chemical etch or an electroetch. Consider decopage. Preserving the paper receipt by sealing it onto a piece of wood.
