de@r gEntLe m@n,
I agree with you totally.
People having American or British accent think that their English is really superb and others having a typical accent is not having a good English.
Such people will always degrade others and will always remain in so much of attitude that for them nothing is right, except their own decisions.
But i think, that English doesn't depend on the way you speak. But it depends on the way you present it and what more counts and matters is a very good and high VOCABULARY.
Of course little style and accent matters, but not much. Because if we do much then those people come into the category of OVER-ACTORS, and people really ahte over actors...... :).....tc...sweet dreamz...bye....

I think many people think like that and it actually sounds really bad. Especially when they talk in front of a group of people or if u r an interview, It just sounds really bad.
I remember that when I first came to US, i didn't have that accent , so everyone had hard time understanding me. But then I learned it and now i am pretty good at it. But when i go to India, some of my teachers talks to me in English, and I try to talk to them really slow and try not to talk with that American slang. I think to have an effective communication, u shouldn't pretend like something that u r not.

Slang is often one of the most difficult features of a language to master, so if a person has mastered the use of slang, it probably indicates that his/her language proficiency is pretty high.
Also, I think that many non-native speakers of a language realize that their language is not the same as that of native speakers. They figure that using slang will help their language to not stand out as much from the language of native speakers. That's probably true, but personally I'm not so sure that blending in with native speakers needs to be the goal. For most people, it's a pretty unrealistic goal anyway.
When I teach ESL (English as a Second Language) classes and teach other people how to be ESL teachers, we focus on communication.

It is not what slang English you speak as far as you speak the language fluently. As far as you form sentence correctly and respectfully it doesn't matter whether it is American English, British English or any other English.

There are many registers of language you need to master in order to say that you truly know that language.
