I'm not sure if it's common, but it's almost unheard of amongst straight males. So gay males are far more likely to have body image issues than straight guys.
But from everything I've observed - maybe common is the right word after all. Shame, too - most guys really don't have that much to worry about (imo), or the ones who do have something to worry about ---- don't worry about it!

Gay society expects gay men to be young and muscular. Anything else is not acceptable. Check out the ads in your favorite gay magazine (OUT, The Advocate, Genre, etc.) and tell me that this is a realistic portrayal of the male physique.
The bear community doesn't rank six-pack abs high on its list of "must haves." Actually, the opposite. A belly is highly favored and the more maturity one has the better.
Why we allow ourselves to be pelted with the images that we are is beyond me. Men should be men and not concerned with grey hair, a belly, a scraggly beard...it should be what's inside a man that counts.

Judging from my friends, I would say yes. I do know however that straight men can have body image complexes. I don't think it is limited to a certain demographic by any means.
