I've heard that you can face criminal charges if the cops prevent you. What exactly can the court system do to you if this is the case? If it is illegal, i think it's complete bull.

Attempted suicide is illegal. It is a crime against humanity. You will be sent for a psychological evaluation and the state will force you to be admitted into a hospital until your " reason of insanity " becomes " sane ".

There is alot of things illegal that no one really thinks about but I'll tell you a weird one.

A guy was in jail for a certain period of time, I ask him what he was in jail for and he said he was arrested for burglary. Then the bunch of us was setting around talking about the reasons they were in jail and the same guy from the burglary spoke up and said he got an extended amount of time in jail for " mastubating "....It was funny and no one believed it and he got serious and said they gave him additional time for " STRETCHING COUNTY PROPERTY "..I thought it was bullshitz. I was released after 24 hours ( DUI ) and I went to the courthouse and looked up public files of those incarcerated and there it was......such and such's name and he was charged and convicted of stretching county property. LOL, the law can do whatever they want including putting you in jail for attempted suicide.

The guy in jail was already in jail when he was masturbating, he actually did it in front of the camera..( I told him he should've been a porn star if he likes the camera's that well )

P.S. I hope your not going to kill yourself, if you do...email me and tell us " WHAT'S REALLY OUT THERE ".

What the state does if they prevent you from committing suicide is to have the person committed to a mental hospital. There is a section within the Health and Welfare Code in California that allows responsible adults to have others committed that are a danger to themselves. I was a hearing officer for four months for what is known as 5150 hearings. Obviously, if you are successful, there is no penalty that can be imposed on a corpse. If you are unsuccesful, it is considered illegal because you are endangering life without due process. The police, a clergyman, a school administrator, a lawyer, a doctor, a parent etc. all have authority to have you committed for 72 hour observation. At that time you are entitled to a hearing as to whether the facility can keep you another 2 weeks. After that, another hearing to see if they can keep you another month. There is also a hearing to determine if the facility can force medications into you. There are three criteria for committments: a danger to yourself, a danger to others, or gravely disabled, meaning you are incapable of utilizing the necessities of life, food, clothing and shelter.
I usually gave the patient the benefit of the doubt if they had a plan for their care and keeping. If they came back a second time, I was not as lenient.
Attempted suicide is a sure bet to get you committed for at least two weeks.

Not sure it is illegal, but if the person is saved before they commit this cowardice weak act. They they are put into psycological watch, treatment. I could se where it could be illegal. If it is illegal to harm someone else then why would it be different if to to thy self. Sorry, I don't wan to offend anyone but I believe that is a cowardl thing to do, and for those who attempt this at a young age, well it's sad cause nothng is that bad . Life is a gift, not to be toyed wht as an attention getter or punishment, or giving up. Doing something like this would devistate those who love you. Are you thinking of doing this. Please don't go to a counselor or talk to someone you trust about how you are feeling. Things get better.

If the police successfully prevent you from killing yourself, you will be taken into protective custody and sent for a psychological screening, medical exam etc. You will be kept in protective custody at a county facility until a judge reads all of the police and medical reports. Then they will decide what to do with you. Which could be anything from releasing you into the care of a family member, ordering you to recieve counseling, or having you commited to mental institution.

I work in a hospital emergency room and have NEVER witnessed ANYONE get criminally charged for an attempted suicide...EVER. They are treated medically as anyone else would be, and then they are admitted for a full psychiatric evaluation...AND treatment if necessary with therapy and meds. And when they are deemed "fit" again, they are discharged home for outpatient psychiatric followup.

Yes it is illegal, not sure what the charge would be attempted murder I suppose. Fact of the matter is you are simply not allowed to take your own life, which I think is rather stupid. If someone wants to off them self then let them it's their life not the state's.

No, its not illegal but is classified as amentaldificiency so thats why most end up in a mental hospital afterwards for evalaution and help instead of jail

Yes it is and you can actually face criminal charges because it is almost the same as murder or attempted murder. They can't do anything to you if you or the person is successfull but when it is attempted you can face the charges of attempted murder.

I know what you are saying, if you attempt and you don't succeed. obviously you can't get charged if you are dead.

They won't charge you for attempting to hurt yourself, what they will do is have you speak to a mental health professional. What you will get charged with is possession of illegal drugs, firearms in a public place etc...

Well I don't think suicide itself would be illegal, but "wasting" the police's time to come and stop you might bring a criminal charge.
