They Were Wrong All Along

Mother,
Can you save me
from what they have
did and done?

Murder,
mischief,
congregating
I’ve misplaced my gun

Melt away
the steel re-bar
that now surrounds
your son

Oh,
Mother
will I get life
or just be hung?

Father,
Can you rid me
of my chaos
and my dreams?

Hand me back
my childhood
‘least back then
were better things

Take away
my cell mates,
wash away their
brutal stings

Oh,
Father,
get this case
appealed for me!

Mother,
Should this letter
find you safe
and doing well,

Know that
I’m no longer
living in my
private hell

Last night
after dinner
I returned back
to my cell

Tied the noose,
kicked out the chair
and ended
tales to tell

Father,
Should this letter
get to you before
Mom’s comes

Let her know
I’m innocent,
I came across
my gun

Tommy
lifted prints off mine
to prove
it could be done

Please,
tell her
they were wrong
all along...

I am an old man of 44, and during th years I was volunteering at the Y, mentoring. I was accused twice, of misconduct. One by a mother who was abusive, and I reported her, and the other was by a neighbor. Although I was not charged, and I do not know why she did it she was arrested. I did not notice too much difference, I changed a little. I have been careful on the first incidence, not to hug a child very much, because I have seen good people hurt, and always in public. After the last one, even though my accuser was arrested, I backed away a little. And adjusted my interaction with the children. I would talk privately with a child, but just out of ear shot of others, never alone.

Wow-deep! The end is kind of wrong though. It doesn't fit the rest of the poem.

Please,
tell her
my guilt
there is none.

This is a very catchy tune. I sang it all the way from the first line. I like it.
