Yes why not, some good friends can be made over the Internet. My daughter is proof of that, she met her partner and they have been together 2 years now. I think the fact that you do not know the person can help some people open up, that way they tend to tell the truth about themselves. On the other hand we all know how easy it is to manipulate and fool people on line so i guess like all new friendships its pot luck for you to get it right x x
