Women used to drink and smoke through their entire pregnancies before the medical community started telling them not to. Don't worry about the salami.

At 4 weeks you'll be just fine! Just stay away from these foods now!

What you need to worry about is toxoplasmosis:
If toxoplasmosis is caught in early pregnancy and is transmitted to the baby then there is a high risk of miscarriage. Babies infected during that first trimester or the second trimester may be born with severe abnormalities such as hydrocephalus (water on the brain), brain damage, or epilepsy. They may also suffer with deafness, blindness or growth problems. These may be so severe that the baby is stillborn.

If toxoplasmosis is caught in the third trimester of pregnancy and transmitted to the baby then babies may not suffer such severe and obvious problems. Although most of these babies may appear normal at birth, a large proportion will develop problems later in life. These are usually eye problems.

Avoid raw meats such as Parma ham and salami because they carry a risk of listeria. Make sure that meat products, such as beef burgers, are cooked all the way through to kill off ecoli bacteria. Chicken needs to be cooked through too as it can be infected with the campylobacter bacteria. Too much vitamin A is known to be toxic in pregnancy so avoid liver and liver products, such as liver sausage and patés.

if you already ate it and you feel fine - you probably are fine. They just don't want you to eat salami becuase of the risk... however most salami is safe to eat. It's just hte risk they are warning you of... if the salami is bad or contaminated you and the baby could get sick....

dont' worry for now, just try to avoid it in the future... same with mercury laden food such as tuna.

I've never heard that you can't eat salami when pregnant. Who told you this? It's not "good" for you, but by all means can't hurt you. It's fully cooked.

You and your little one are most likely fine. They tell you not to eat deli meat because of a risk of listeria. In the US, listeria is rarely found in deli meat as long as it is from a reputable place.

I would stay away from it just to be abundantly careful, but honestly, it is almost impossible to avoid everything that you are told to avoid in pregnancy.

Just do your best and things will be fine.

You can't eat anything now days if you are pregnant. In the good old days women could eat anything and the AMA had no say-so about anything being a danger to the unborn fetus, etc. You might want to totally avoid Co-cain and Marriwonna though . . . (Excuse the spelling, please.) . . .

I think that you should be fine, with my last 4 pregnancy I ate deli meat and all four of my boys turned out just fine. They just tell you to say away from it now, this is something really new.
