I work for about 7 hours 8pm-3am when babysitting 2 kids (1 is 6 1 is 2) and I get paid £15 - my parents say it isnt enough and i'm getting lyk £2 an hour. How do I tell the people I babysit for without sounding rude and demanding? Is there a way?

Tell them a price you want to be paid. If they decline tell them you can no longer babysit for them. There is no nice way to do it. The type of hours you are required to sit for is a sign you should get paid more.

What do your parents say you should be making?

What do the parents make? Because as you get higher in price it might be better for them to stay at home themselves. I would say £3.5-4 is probably a good rate for two children and the type of hours you have to watch them. Depending on what the second parent is making it may not be cost effective to work. Ask other sitters what their rates are to get a good idea.

Find out what other babysitters are charging .. usually it's 'by the hour' with some minimum charge.

MOST babysitters will charge extra for hours after midnight PLUS a 'penalty' if they are late coming home.

Having decided your rates, when you are next asked to babysit tell them :-

"I am now charging £XX per hour before midnight and £YY per hour after midnight. Is that OK or do you want to call some-one else ?"

Be prepared for some customers to say 'no'.
