its a n reg,now sometimes when its been a eally cold night and i come to start it in the morning,the first start of the day-i turn the key the usual engine fireing sounds then a noise something like a der,der,der,der,dr happens,then stops,it will not do it again then for the rest of the day,like i said this normaly only happens now and again and when its been a frosty night.what might it be ?
the car always starts still with relative ease and the der,der,der,der,dr noise stops after maybe 3 seconds..does this sound serious?

For a 11-12 year old car, it's not an unusual symptom. And it's nothing serious either.

Just make sure you use a good quality synthetic oil. For cold temperatures, I would recommend you to use the Castrol 0W-30 or Mobil 1 0W-40; and use good quality (unleaded 98) fuel.

sounds like the Vanos Valve System there's alot going on in the top end and as soon as it gets oil up there it stops this is most prevalent when its cold
