It's a perception issue with baseball. The only major sport in America that compares is football. Both sports require an enormous amount of strength and toughness. The NFL is perceived to have a more comprehensive testing program for steroids than the MLB, because it's been around longer and was less derisive between the NFL and players union when it was implemented. BUT the NFL does not have a blood test for HGH and other substances that are undetectable from urine testing. So I imagine that will be next dark chapter for the NFL...
As for basketball and ice hockey, most people perceive HGH as less of a threat. These players require as much speed as strength, so people think taking HGH to get bigger will force the player to be slower. Then it would be useless to take HGH... Of course, there might be a better substance to make you get faster and stronger... That's why I think all sports have to be on the lookout.
The biggest issue and PR nightmare for baseball is the amount of broken records in the last 10 years. How many famous records have been broken in the other 3 sports? Not that many... And records aren't as valued in those sports as it is in baseball. In baseball, we had the most precious records broken recently (lifetime HR's and HR's in a single season twice). Clearly steroids have an influence in the record breaking. The records breaking has translated into record revenues so fans are upset they spent money on a cheated product.

Baseball tends to put more of an emphasis on stats and records. People didn't start questioning or caring about steriods in baseball until the homerun records started getting broken.
Football tends to put the emphasis on the number of wins and the team.
Athletes from all types of sports have been popping on drug tests. Biking, Track and Field, Football and Baseball.
Baseball has had some of its biggest stars and record breakers become suspected of taking steroids/hgh recently and that is why they are getting the most attention.

Perhaps. But I've heard that steroids is rampant in the NFL. Remember Shawn Merriman last year? Maybe the NFL is better at testing or better at information control.
As far as basketball, I've heard that steroids has no real benefits. Speed and quickness are much more important than bulk and strength in basketball so steroids would not be useful.

what about people in the olympics, cycling, basketball, hockey? Those sports are all just as gulity...you just don't know the players. They aren't as visible. Need we remind you the winner of the tour de france tested positive for hormones last year? I hate to break it to you but the NFL and NBA have just as many problems as the MLB regarding steriods. I would say that the baseball strike in the 1990s is more of an issue with people not liking baseball than steriods. While I truly follow just the a's...I am a baseball fan at heart and it is up to us to raise kids properly and teach them that steroids are bad and not to do them. Don't put idiots like Bonds on pedestals as role models. We are the role models.

Steroids have become big news in baseball, track and field, but rest assured that a huge number of sports use roids.
some sports do testing..other' dont.
The sad thing is that the players, owners , and the audience in general doest care.
The side effect is raising the standard beyond what is naturaly possible, and making achievement very difficult.
These guys as they age will be a mess.

They are prevelant in other sports such as track and field and cycling. The NFL had a steroid epedemic in the 1980s, but the NBA has been spotless when it comes to performance enhancing drugs.

Steroids are incredibly common in the NFL, all the way down to high school football. As for the NBA, they are not common in this league for two basic reasons: (1) There is not an advantage in getting big and muscular for a basketball player. (2) The NBA is predominately Black. Black athletes, on average, use steroids less than White athletes do.
