I can't remember the name of the place so this probably won't help but a block down from the Shinagawa Prince Hotel (the hotel side, going towards Shinagawa Eki) there is a tiny Ramen restaurant (has just bar seating). They have really good ramen. It's just about a 2 second walk from Shinagawa Eki.

I'll take a stand here.

Ramen: Rokkakuya - Yokohama

Sushi: Kyubei - Ginza

Shabu Shabu: Momo Paradise - around Tokyo

Okonomiyaki: Chibo - Ebisu

Depends on your tastes and what area you'll eat food.

If you're in the Kansai area, best bet is to go to Osaka. THey're the "food capitol" of the world. Lots of delicious stuff.
Tokyo too has its charm but Osakans take pride in what they make.

Gyu-niku is my favorite though. Yum.

Japan is a big country, it also depends on what you like to eat, there are toooo many to name.

If you like Kobe Steak try eating it in Kobe, I like Hakata Ramen better then other ramen. But again depends on what you plan to eat and do.
