its in the future, oldish film where its like robot wars but the robots are huge and the operators are actually inside them and whatever movement he does the the robot does and they fight each other

...actually, there were three movies, all culled from the same production company, but with different distributors, which bore the premise you describe; they are:
"Robot Jox" (1990)
"Robot Wars" (1993)
"Crash and Burn" (1990)
...take your pick; choice is a good thing!!! With the overall success of the recent live-action "Transformers", it's not surprising that these three films are seeing re-newed interest...

How annoying, this really rings a bell but I can't remember it exactly. Kind of low budget if I remember rightly, in the 80's. Live action, not animation (well obviously the robots are but what I mean is not anime) For some reason the word Jack comes into my head as being in the title but I can't be more help than that I'm afraid.

There was also a film called crash and burn which came out at the same time, it featured one of those robots as well.

crash and burn was one i saw back in the earlie 90's i think,it was based on transformers,but big real ones with a pilot
