I heard that not one single person who lived in Washington, D.C., voted for John F. Kennedy as president when he was elected in 1960. How can this be true? Did everyone vote for Nixon?

American citizens who lived in Washington, D.C. were prohibited from voting, even in presidential elections, until 1961. So the first president they could have voted for was Lyndon B. Johnson. They still cannot elect a congressman or a senator--neither of which they have. They have no say at all in the national government.
