Well, it took me a while, but I finally realized something about why black kids like rap so much. It's because they can do it better than white kids. And the reason for that is a long heritage of oral traditions, where enormous feats of memory were practiced. A rap singer (chanter, really) has to memorize so completely that he can say it all very fast, keep his rhythmic pace, and pronounce everything to be distinguished at least at the subliminal level. In Africa, for centuries there have been people who memorized entire genealogies (remember in "Roots"?), long and complicated stories and poems, and teach them to the next generation. Whites, except perhaps for druids, have nothing comparable in their heritage.

Darwin makes clear that whatever brings the esteem of the tribe, and therefore survival and reproductive success, gets selected for genetically over time. So a good memory of that particular type is far more a black trait than a white one.

P.S. Lest anyone protest, I do not believe discovering POSITIVE traits which are linked to race is racism, unless you consider it reverse racism, since I'm talking about my own white race as inferior on this variable.

I realized that we must not take things for granted, and how important each thing, each person that affects my life. I realized that I must give importance to everything I get involved to and to everything I see.
