A friend of mine has told me that he heard a rumour that Paul McGann was going to appear in the new series of Dr Who as the 8th Doctor. Apparently the Doctor has flashbacks to the Timewar and this brings back the character of Davros. Anybody else heard this?

I've heard it too, but if I recall McGann was asked about it at a recent convention and denied the rumour. He said he hasn't even been asked, and that even if he was he most likely wouldn't do it. But then, whose to say he won't change his mind if he /were/ asked...

I read something about McGann and the Time War being featured a while back, but it was on a fan site where they were just speculating based on what fans would like to see. Quite a few rumours have started from stuff posted on that site, and 90% of them have been proved completely wrong.

For instance they said Hugh Grant would be appearing as a villain in "Voyage of the Damned", and of course he isn't. They are also falsely stating that the Golden figures who will be the baddies in "VotD" are the Axons. They are actually a new creature called "The Host".

The site in question is http://www.sylvestermccoy.com/newdoctorwho/

They seem to be correcting some of their false speculations as more official news is announced, but it's best not to take the above site seriously.

There was a rumour in the press that Davros would be appearing in the 2008 series, played by Ben Kingsley. That now seems very unlikely, since the BBC have made it clear that the main baddies in the next series are to be the Sontarans. I suspect Davros might make an appearence in one of the special episodes in 2009 though.

The moral of the story is, don't believe anything you hear about future Doctor Who episodes unless it has been officially announced by the BBC - see the BBC Doctor Who news archive for all the official stuff:-

I've seen this on a 'speculated' rumoured but very detailed episode guide for the 4th series posted on the web a few months back. It seemed like a fan's wishlist at the time, too good to be true...but then the sontarians were confirmed as per the guide....Rose back for the finale...as per the guide....the guide mentions a forgotton Axon time scoop over London causing the havoc of shattering time meaning they are more than flashbacks. Axon like beings are in the Christmas special.

Let's not speculate further so many people could be disappointed if its not true.

I can't speak to those rumors, as I only discovered DW a few seasons back, when Christopher Eccleston (sp?), later The Invisible Man from Heroes: season 1, was the Doctor.

But I did see on G4 that Billie Piper would be doing a 3 episode guest appearance in the next season/series

I heard that Davros was going to be in it and if the doctor has flash backs then it makes sense to have Paul McGann in there to (he never really got a proper go at it, did he) though I'm not so sure what's rumor and what's not at the moment (am hating the fact that the new assistant is catherine tate. she will ruin it.)
One fantastic rumor I heard was that sir Ben Kingsley was going to be playing Davros. Superb if it's true. (I recently read a thing with him denying it though, booo!)

If so the latest Doctor should say to Doctor #8: Why, you're half human! McGann would reply oh my dna got scrambled a bit when I was regenerated (probably caused bby rodents running up and down inside my pants' legs due tyo S. Mccoy's old schtick); I even halucinated that I knew my father.

Yes I have heard these rumours, just remember that 23 November 2008 will the 45th anniversary of the first screening of Doctor Who.

That would be fabulous if he came back! I have not heard this rumour though.

Although...it rings an almighty bell in my head so it could be very possible!

Not heard that. Can't see them bring in another doctor again, when they did it for a Children in Need Special.
