Schneider and Perry for Koivu, Halak, and a prospect. Selanne would then return and play with Koivu.
Doesn't seem to me like it would hold any water. Habs would get the better end of the deal. It would have to be some prospect IMO to get Perry.
Thoughts?

Adam, I have always found Koivu's offensive talent to be over-hyped. However, if he were plaing with Teemu, that could be different.

Craig, Halak is expendable for sure. Scheinder would give them a good PP quarterback, something they have missed with Soray's departure. I know they are near the top (if not tops) in the NHL in PP% but that was due to a VERY hot start on the PP, it has been coming back down to earth steadily lately. Some experience back there too. Montreal has always been fond of Schneider too if I recall correctly. Perry is going to be a star in the league so that is what makes me hesitant to believe the validity of the rumour.

As a habs fan I like it, however I don't see it happening unless we have a prospect I don't know about. Looking at the prospects in the Habs system I don't see anyone that would make the deal make sense from the Ducks perspective.
The ducks are essentially giving up Perry who is one of their best young players for a prospect and Koivu. Koivu's best years are behind him, Schneider is serviceable but on in years. The key is Perry- would love to have him but don't see it happening.
Also we have a surplus of d-men, not of Schneider's talent but we are playing two d-men up front now and have more decent prospects in the system on D.
Bob, thank you you were right last night. Didn't see the game but pleasantly surprised with the Win.
Darn party, the head is hurting this morning.

As much as I like Koivu, as a Habs fan I love Corey Perry's upside. He gets lost in the shuffle out in Anaheim, but I think he could be a great player for years to come. When he was on that star-studded Knights team, there weren't many better junior players anywhere in the country. I don't think there's a huge difference between the two right now, and Perry is ten years younger.
I'd be all for having Schneider back, too. It's good to have some youth on D (just kidding, although he's much younger than Chris Chelios). Really, though, it would be good to have a steadying presence on the blueline, because it seems to me that the Canadiens' defense often panics late in games.
As for Halak, it's tough to worry too much about losing him when you've already got Price set as your goalie of the future. I would love to see this trade happen. Oh, and Corey Perry will have to learn French - Montreal fans are still ticked that Koivu hasn't made the effort.

Hmm... interesting. I don't know why the Ducks would trade an up an comer like Perry for Koivu who is undoubtedly on the down side of his career. I see what the Ducks are thinking dealing Schneider since he is older and they want to dump his salary. Halak is just a backup but the prosepect could be useful.
I don't think Koivu's offensive skills are as good as Perry's. If I were the Habs I would do this deal in a heartbeat. It gets rid of the captain that you know this organization doesn't want as its leader, and you get Perry.

Wow where'd you come up with this trade. Montreal would have to be tripping all over themselves trying to get it done.
Schneider is a pretty decent defenceman and you know Perry is going to be a top ten NHL foreward eventually.
Koivu, even though he's the Hab's captain has seen his best days and Halak is their third string goalie who has 20 minutes of playing time for a reason. That better be some seriously hot prospect. I know Burke's in a pickle but I'm sure he can do better than this. I don't see where this would even help his cap problem, I don't have the numbers but it would seem Koivu and Shneider would have similar contract value. No? Can't see it happening, but if Burke has to get robbed at least its out of his division and conference. They still wouldn't have cap space for Selanne, can't see Burke going through this twice in the same year.

I just don't see it, although it would clear up the necessary cap space for Niedermayer to come back, but the Ducks would still but up right to the cap limit. Mtl would be right there at the limit as well, with about a million as a cushion. Now you bring in the idea of Selanne coming back and the ducks have to make more moves to create the cap space to absorb his salary as well. Whatever happens the ducks will part with an established player for draft picks or prospects so they don't take on anymore against the cap.

It would tough to imagine the Ducks letting Perry go now, and I do not know what Koivu makes, could this be some kind of cap move now that Niedermayer is coming back? I would think the "prospect" would have to be one hell of a prospect.
Although Selanne and Koivu would be quite interesting to watch together.

i'm no longer able to have faith some one certainly called Paul Maholm a great pitcher and Tabata a brilliant youthful OF. LOL i do no longer see the Pirates getting Pence in any respect. they might't have the funds for to lose the destiny for Pence. Pence isn't likely to place them over the precise or something. they're greater suitable off going after a Carlos Pena, Josh Willingham, Ryan Ludwick, Melky Cabrera or Jeff Francoeur sort participant. they'd not could sell off fairly some good possibilities then. Braves are additionally interior the mixture for Pence or Beltran.

I don't want to see Perry go to Montreal.
and i heard this same rumored trade, but it was Price instead of Halak, but then Montreal would be getting ripped off.
but it's all rumors. i just hope the ducks get the punch in the face that they deserve for waiting on "King Niedermayer" And "Prince Selanne" they should have Niedermayer traded right now, they dont need him if they can add young talent.

Burke was stupid enough to sign Bertuzzi, for 2 years/8 mill, so what makes you think he wouldnt do a trade like this. If the little quackers, are going to start this stuff already, they should end uo in that elite group of teams, that win the cup, then miss the playoffs the next year.

Not sure if the habs actually need another defenseman. I would trade Ryder for Perry in a heartbeat and throw in Halak.
