I took an on-line class at a University my brother and sister are alumni at. My brother made the school alot of money as he was there top debater for a nationally known debate team. I attempted to drop the course one day after taking the class, and I never went on-line. Could I have a chance by writing the University to ask for a refund?

Actually, debate teams cost the school money, although the school may consider it worth the expense because it enhances their overall reputation, so even if there was any relationship between your brother's accounts and yours, which there isn't, it wouldn't help you.

What does matter is when you signed up for the class. Usually there is a specific schedule for refunds. So if you decided not to take the course this week or last, then contact them immediately (call them or email, don't send it snail mail). Otherwise, I'm afraid you will be out of luck, because even if you never participated in the class, once you get past a particular date, you are stuck paying for it.

You will get better results by calling them. You need to make sure that the class was dropped and that you dont end up with a failing grade. Once the semester starts you may not get 100% of your money back. I dont quite understand what you mean by "attempted" to drop the class. Either you did or you didnt. If this was a class that started this semester you need to have addressed this problem before finals week in order for them to consider a refund.
