It sounds like the computer you are attempting to reach is down. Is there anyway you can use remote access to check on its condition? Do you have the remote help option configured to allow you to access remotely? If so, attempt a connection and see if you are returned the same or simular error.

As you are such a distance away, is there anyone on the end of the down system? If so, you can have that person check on the systems condition, or the network condition. If the network has errored out, it could simply require a reboot of the modem and/or router. Once these are rebooted, also reboot the system itself.

Without somebody at the end where the system resides to do some manual correction, there isn't any method you could do so at your end. When the system is up, or the network is working correctly, you can remote in to configure and manage other features of the system, and/or use applications. However, if the network simply requires rebooting, a physical person needs to perform that function.

Sorry for the bad news. While there is a great deal Users can do remotely with systems these days, if the network is down for any reason, then remote access is also down and a connection can not be made. As you know, without a viable connection, there IS not a way to form a connection. It is a catch 22 sort of situation. When you are in a remote location and an network connection error occurs, you need to correct that error to get the network functioning again, but you can't correct the error without a network connection. The only way around this is for somebody who is in the same location to reboot and/or repair manually.

Now, if anyone is there, you can talk them through rebooting the neccassary devices even if they have little or no experiance. It is a simple thing to do, reboot modems, routers and systems. If rebooting does not correct the error, then more detailed repair may be required. However, you can have the individual check on the power connections, and any other cables to make sure they have not come loose. Often it is a small issue which needs correcting.

First you would need a fixed public IP address for this to work. Your address is most likely to be dynamic, your public address can change without warning. Seconf you need ports forwarded on your router for every service you want to access, pointing to your private IP address. You will also need to open the correct ports in your computer firewall.

That error is returned when the DNS you are using cannot contact the computer you specified. I would say the remote computer is down.
