I found on ancestry.com that in the 1500s or 1600s my one great (however many greats) grandfathers was born in Jamaica when his parents came from Britain. Could this be true of are they making this up? Do they have records that prove this?

First remember that Jamaica only became an English possession in 1655. There were no government issued birth certificates in the 17th century. Baptisms would have been recorded in the register of the local church. If that particular church still exists, it may still have the records.

I don't know your family, family name or anything, so it is hard to tell if it is true or not. But, it is not an impossible thing. Maybe the boat made a one night stop to unload some cargo or buy goodies and your grandfather was born that night, I don't know. Why would they lie anyways?

Yes, it could be true.

There are numerous records of various nature that could record such an event.

If I told you yes or no, you still would not know the truth.
