I have had the same thing happen to me, I go next Friday for my 3 hour. The way I understand it just because you read as high on your 1 hr. test it doesn't mean you have diabetes. That's why they test again. If you had read too high they wouldn't test and they would just start treating you. So i would say you have at least a 50/50 chance of not having it and maybe higher. They say not to worry if you do have it, that diet and if needed insulin shots will help. And if the baby is bigger than it is supposed to be the odds are good that the baby will be more normal sized when born and there won't be any complications. I'm scared anyway though. Hope it was just a bad day for my 1 hr. test. Good luck.

Don't fear the GD. I had it w/ my pregnancy. If you have it, all you need to do is watch what you eat and be on an eating schedule. Your doc might suggest you see a dietician for the remainder of your pregnancy.
I had to check my blood sugar levels 4x's a day. And the finger prick is nothing. No Pain, if you use the side of your finger. Never use the the bottom!
I was placed on a 1800-2400 cal diet. I had to eat 6 times a day.
Here is what my diet consisted of.
9am 1 meat, 2 starch
11am 1 starch
1pm 2 starch, 1 meat, 1 veggies, 1 fruit
3pm 1 milk product (usually yogurt)
5pm 2 starch, 1 meat, 1 fruit, 2 veggies, 1 milk product
8pm 1 starch 1 meat
***1 meat = 3 oz
Trust me that is alot of food! And towards the end I wasn't gaining enough weight so she added more protein to my diet.
Don't use butters, stick to margerines.
Really it is okay, See a dietician to see what kind of diet you should be on and what you can eat. There are alot of factors in what I just told you. So you need to learn the ins and outs of your own personal diet plan.
And GD can happen to any pregnant woman even if diabetes doesn't run in ythe family. After the birth of your child you will need to get tested once a year for diabetes. Now you have a chance of getting it.

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.
Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!
I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

Me!
I failed my one hour test then had the 3 hour test.
My result from that were failed the first hour, border line the second hour and passed the third hour. So I past the test.
Even still I began to watch my "bad" food intake, because I had become overly indulgent in the "bad" foods. I figured it couldn't hurt. And my cousin, a nurse, mentioned that supposedly if you fail any of the 3 tests during the 3 hour, they are to consider you failed. I don't know about that since my doctor told me my results of each hour and said I passed.

I failed my 1 hour test, and did fine with the 3 hour (other than the fact that I got REALLY sick and almost passed out).
I think the protein in your urine is more indicative of a UTI or pre-eclampsia, but you need to talk to your doctor about that.

Look at these sites about the protein in your urine. This will let you know why they tested for it, what it could be, and other things. As far as the gest. diabetes, it is a form of diabetes that forms while you are pregnant. It usually goes away after giving birth, and is quite common. I have included a few links to give you more insight to that as well. Hope it helps you better understand it all.

Gestational Diabetes is not hereditary. It is a condition brought on by your pregnancy.
You can fail the 1 hour and still pass the 3 hour.
Here is some info for you:
http://www.diabetes.org/gestational-diabetes.jsp
http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gestational_diabetes
http://www.familydoctor.org/online/famdocen/.../pregnancy/complications/075.html
http://www.webmd.com/baby/guide/pregnancy-gestational-diabetes
I had it, and it's not that bad...
The protein in your urine indicates that you kidneys are working overtime. Low amounts of protein are not uncommon, and may simply mean that your kidneys are working harder than before pregnancy. High amounts may indicate pre-eclampsia (not common early in pregnancy). If yours is high, they will monitor you, and check for infections, etc...

I failed the first and passed the second. I carb LOADED days prior to the second test. If you avoid carbs then your body is going to spaz when you drink the syrup. If you carb load then your body will be ready to handle that sugary drink.
If you fail both tests, you have to take a class at a local hospital, you have to monitor your sugar, and change your diet.
Best to try and avoid a false positive.
Best of luck.

I just learned about this in my perinatal class last night! It's not a "show-stopper".... all you have to do is alter your diet and exercise if you can. They will monitor you more closely until you give birth, so it's more of a nuissance than anything. Don't stress about it though, you and your baby will be just fine! Best wishes with the rest of your pregnancy.
