You know, I love them too, but you are right, some really do come un-glued.
I guess some of them are not real secure in what they believe and when someone criticizes one of their beliefs, they get real defensive and loose their cool. I suppose some of these are Christians, who really haven't committed to God in the sense that they are not dedicated.
I think it is very important for Christians in particular to be calm and chill, before answering a question in a way it might offend someone. After all, we might be the only Christians, that they will come in contact with, and we need to be good witnesses. God did not call on us to be lawyers or judges, just witnesses.

Many of "them" truly believe what they are talking about, so to outsiders who think religion is just a hobby it can be frustrating when someone doesn't "get it". The true believer can't understand why unbelievers don't see the truth and jump on board, and that can be taken to heart, given the consequences of unbelief. Some are just weenies.

Religious belief is the very core of their values. Usually, for a very religious person, their religious views dictate their everyday beliefs, actions, etc. Therefore, when their beliefs are attacked, they feel their very being is being attacked.
I think others get upset because they have strong beliefs, but not the knowledge to eloquently back them up.

I know what you mean!
I say that I believe in Yahweh as my God, and I get like a zillion thumbs down, and some of them act like I just killed someone.
It's just like, give me a break, and go see your pscychologist to get some pills or something.
I think they need to learn religious tolerance and respect, and take people trying to convert them as acts of love by their fellow man, because they want them to know the truth.

Religion is one of those "hot button" issues. I wonder what God would say about all this dissension in his name? I like what the Dali Lama said about kindness being the best religion.
