Hello, Y'all,

I was wondering how at home pregnancy test work?

And also, does it matter when you take them? Because my fried, it'd been two weeks since she's gotten her period and she just took a test and it came up negative, does that mean she's not pregnant. or could that mean she needs to take it around the time she's supposed to get it?

Oh, and her going to the doctor is out of the question, she's very busy and it takes an hour to get to her doctor and she doesn't think it's the important, she'll just find out eventually.

Thanks,

Rose

do you mean that your friend's period was two weeks overdue? That would make more sense. If you meant it the way you said it, your friend should wait until the time that the period is due, and if it doesn't come, then wait another week or so, then take a home test. Do it first thing in the morning, when the pee is concentrated and more likely to have the pregnancy hormone in it.
If she IS pregnant, then she's going to HAVE to make time to go to the doctor.

Rose,
A pregnancy test (at home) really is not effective until after the first day of a missed period. What it does is detect HCg ( a hormone produced by a womans body when she is pregnant) in the urine. Typically the levels of this hormone are too low before a period is missed to be detected by an at home test. Only a blood test administered by a physician would be able to tell earlier than an at home test, so if she is not willing to go, she will just need to wait until she misses her period. Just a side note though, if she is pregnant, she is going to need to take some time out of her "busy" schedule to go to the doctor pretty often.
Good Luck.

Your friend should take the test a week after her missed period. There are early pregnancy tests that can work up to a week before the missed period..she should at least talk to a pharmacist and get some advice on the tests.
