That is a very old idea, but it would be interesting to see it happen, but I don't think it will. He won't be elected, so it is a moot point.

I think it's a fantastic idea. The abolishment of the IRS would not limit the collection of said taxes, just the unnecessary (it's used to pay back interest to the FED for printing their worthless money) and unpopular Income Tax. All other taxes would remain relatively low because Congressman Paul would like to reduce government spending to pay off the national debt instead of placing the burden on us taxpayers.

,I think it's the best political idea I've ever heard!
Sadly Americans have been conditioned to believe that a personal income tax is necessary to run the federal government.
Nothing could be further from the truth!!!
The personal income tax pays only about 40% of the total federal expenditures. When Dr. Paul eliminates the IRS, The department of homeland security, brings most of the overseas troops home, and downsizes numerous other federal boondoggles, there will be no need for the IRS, and or personal income taxes!
The Constitution states that:
Amendment V
....."no person shall be deprived of Life, Liberty, or Property, without due process"...
The money Americans earn is considered property!!!!
Of course the 16th Amendment would have to be repealed......And can only be repealed if Americans put tremendous pressure on their elected officials to repeal it, once Dr. Paul is elected President and works to keep his campaign promise.
Thanks for the question.

Most Americans don't like the IRS. I think Ron Paul wants to abolish it simply to appeal to Americans that don't like the IRS and are ignorant enough to believe you could possibly do away with them and still run the country. As others have said, he would not have the sole power to do this as president, but rather he would only have the ability to encourage congress to do this. He has more ability to do this now than he would if he becomes president. The fact that he doesn't convinces me he's not the least bit serious on this point.

It's not such a radical idea, since the IRS shouldn't legally exist in the first place.
As long as he has a better tax plan for replacing that revenue. Like a national sales tax or fair tax, or flat tax...whatever.
I especially like his idea to repeal Sarbanes Oxley..... because I hate paperwork.
I wasn't a Ron Paul supporter before...but now that it looks like my choice is going to be Rudy or Hillary....he's sounding better and better.

It's as good as having world peace as an idea?
Great, but even if he does become president, he won't be able to do it.
Supporting Ron Paul is silly. How are any of his "ideas" going to make it through congress, whether it's a democratic congress or a republican one. The president only signs or veto's laws, congress creates them.
Write in Michael Bloomberg for president.

It's populist garbage.
He promotes it because people like the sound of it, but it's all but impossible to do so it won't ever happen.
