If 8x + 5x + 2x + 4x = 114, then 5x + 3=?????

If you can also tell me how you figured it out? I don't understand Algebra either! GED test tomorrow, I know Algebra is on there.. Also if you have any helpful hints for me to jog my memory it's been YEARS (over 10) since I have been in school!! I know there are simple formula's to figure out x but I can't remember.. Thanks all!!! I want to get in college for Winter, but have to pass this test tomorrow!!! Keep your fingers crossed!!!

Excuse my flippen grammer.... I thought I was in the math section of YA not the english section. I’m just trying to get an answer to a question, not really watching my spelling. Oh and on my college application, Winter Semester is capitalized... Thanks!

To all who have given me answers thank you, I appreciate all of your help and advice...... Your fantastic to that jack Azz with the smart mouth... may you grow old and lonely by yourself…. At least I'm doing things to better myself... :) Toodles!

8x + 5x + 2x + 4x = 114

First you combine like terms, that means add every term together that has the same variables.

In your example all you have is the variable x to the 1st power. So, combine all the terms with x in it by adding it together and you will get:

(8+5+2+4)x = 114
19x=114

Now you need to isolate x by dividing BOTH SIDES by 19:

(19/19)x = 114/19
x=6

As for the second problem, I assume that you take the x=6 and plug it into 5x+3.

If that is the case then you will get this:

5(6) + 3 = 30 + 3 = 33

8x + 5x + 2x + 4x = 114 => 19x = 114 => x =(114/19)
=> x=6 => 5x + 3 = (5*6)+3= 30 +3 = 33

You want to use the first equation to solve for x, and once you have that value, you can plug it in to 5x + 3 to find that.

In 8x + 5x + 2x + 4x, you can add the coefficients 8, 5, 2 and 4 to get 19x [think of x as "oranges" or something similar. 8 oranges plus 5 oranges plus 2 oranges plus 4 oranges = 19 oranges]. So you have 19x = 114. Divide both sides by 19 to solve for x: x = 6.

Now plug that in to 5x + 3. 5*6 + 3 = 30 + 3 = 33.

8x + 5x + 2x + 4x = 114
19x = 114 (just add all the coefficients of x together)
x = 6 (divide both sides by 19 to get x)

When x = 6,
5x + 3 = (5 * 6) + 3 = 30 + 3 = 33

8x+5x+2x+4x=11

1. Combine like terms
19x=114

2. Solve for X by dividing both sides by 19
x=6

3. Substitute x=6 into the equation 5x + 3 = ? and get...33!

Hey...
I'm 45 years old and I know exactly how you feel. I tutor math and economics at a junior college and "jogging the memory" is definitely not easy! My advice...get a college algebra book from a friend or a local college and practice, practice, practice...
Good luck!!!
You'll do great!!!

K, add all the x's together. so 8+5+2+4=19, so 19x=114. divide both sides by 19, which will give you 6. So x=6, then plug that into your other equation and solve it. 5(6)+3=? 30+3=33 and thats your answer :)

33
add all the x together you have 19 x's

19 x's are the same as 114

so 1 x is the same as one ninettenth of 114
so 1 x is the same as 114 divided by 19
so x is 6

then plug the 6 into the other side

5 x's + 3 means 5 '6's' + 3
5 '6's' are 30
+ 3
=33

First, try to ignore the x alright.

so if 8x+5x+2x+4x=19x then 19x=114

19x is actually like 19 times x hence 114divided by 19=x

so x =6

if x =6, 5times6+3=33

hope this helps!

8x + 5x + 2x + 4x = 114

you can add up the x's tomorrow.
For example x+2x=3x

In your case you will have 8x + 5x + 2x + 4x = 19x

Therefore 19x=114

so

x=114/19

x=6

As you now know the value of x you can replace x in 5x+3 by 6

5*6+3=33

Here you go

Solve the first equation for x.

19x = 114

x = 6

Check it back into the first equation.

Now substitute into the second equation

5x + 3 = ???

5(6) + 3 = 33
